Adoption of the Model WFDSA Code of Ethics by the WFDSA Board of Directors
On October 8, 2008, after an extensive and consultative review by the WFDSA Ethics Committee, the WFDSA Board of Directors adopted a new model code of ethics that sets the highest standards of ethics for direct selling companies that are members of the 59 national directing associations that comprise the WFDSA. The Board of Directors noted that adoption of the model code with its heightened minimum standards for all WFDSA members is a reflection of the direct selling industry’s commitment to ethical business and consumer protection practices, as well as its determination to make national codes easier to implement, interpret and enforce. As a consequence of the adoption of the model WFDSA code by the Board of Directors, each DSA member is required to adopt the minimum standards set forth by the model code by December 31, 2009, and elect to either adopt the format and model approved by the WFDSA Board of Directors or alternative codes that meet the standards set forth in the newly unified model consumer and company code. The WFDSA Board of Directors also directed that the WFDSA Ethics Committee periodically consult with DSA member associations to make necessary modifications to the code as the market place and regulatory environments evolve. Moreover, WFDSA will provide DSA member associations with explanatory and code adoption guidance to assist members in complying with the new minimum standards of the model code. Related URLs: |
